LBC: Create a Coord Based on a Halloween Story or Creature

This week's prompt for the Lolita Blog Carnival is a fun one! The title says it all, we have to choose a Halloween Story or Creature and create a coord based on it. I made a little list of things that came to mind, but they were all very typical:
 Witch
 Vampire
 Ghost
Frankenstein's monster...

Mehhh, too typical and too overdone. (Well maybe not Frankenstein but I'll steer clear of that one anyways hahah). Instead I started thinking of grim Halloween stories my mom used to tell us when she went back to school to become an English teacher. One of my favorites was:

The Woman With the Ribbon Around Her Neck
The Woman With the Ribbon Around Her Neck

In my mind I pictured the story being set in a cold rainy village with a bit of an Edgar Allan Poe vibe to it. I picture her being an elegant, mysterious woman from the Victorian era (despite the story saying they went disco dancing at one point hahaha). This coord perfectly evokes the feeling I get when I read that short story.

The story goes:

Once there was a man named Philip Games who was in love with an attractive young woman. In fact, you could say she was a very attractive, sweet with a slim build. She had one peculiar trait, however: she always wore a black velvet ribbon around her neck and was never seen without it. One day Games asked her to marry him. She said yes immediately as she was marriage-minded. “I’ll marry you on one condition,” she said. “Never touch the ribbon I wear around my neck.”...

So Strange... Want to find out why she always wore that ribbon? Finish reading the story here!
 Happy Halloween!

Bodyline Free Shipping/ Shoe Sale Nightmare

Those signs will haunt my dreams for a long time

I love sales. I love free shipping. Who doesn't right? Well... Let me just give you some info to keep in mind the next time a sale like this comes around.

Ok so Bodyline, along with free shipping, also took 10000 yen off all of their shoes. So people were going craaaaazy over this sale! I myself had initially only ordered a blouse but then when the shoe sale was added I made a second order. I'm sure hundreds of other lolitas and cosplayers did the exact same haha.

So what does that mean to you?

  • So many orders were made that it all started to back-up. People (including me) were not receiving their tracking numbers by e-mail. We had to find them manually through the site.
  • Another thing is that some people were not even receiving the automatic order confirmation since the system was so overloaded. This is where people were really freaking out.
  • Bodyline was delayed and packages were being dropped off at the post office later and later. Not even EMS-paying customers were safe. Some people paid extra for EMS shipping and received their packages at the same time as the AIR customers (that got shipping for free) If I had paid for EMS I would've been so mad!

My order was pretty much dropped off at the post office at around the time I expected it to (a week after I ordered) but I think it was because I ordered very early in the sale. The sale will run until Halloween but I placed my order almost as soon as the sale was announced.

What was nightmare-ish for me was that I had no idea where one of my packages was. I hadn't gotten the tracking number. I eventually found it on their site's Tracking page but it wouldn't update! For 2 weeks I had no idea what was happening with my package. Suddenly one day it started working...

My package has already been delivered (Sept 29) but the tracking doesn't say it has been delivered.
The other package however is still at JFK

To add onto all this chaos, poor Japan had a super typhoon called Vongfong which delayed shipping even more. I finally received my package after a month of waiting (I usually get my packages in 2 weeks). On top of all this, Halloween is this week so October is one of their busiest times of the year. Chaos.

In conclusion:

  • During these sales, expect delays. EVERYONE will be taking advantage of these types of sales.
  • If your tracking hasn't been e-mailed to you, go to the Bodyline front page and look for the big red TRACKING button.
  • Bodyline will not answer your e-mails, even if you paid for EMS.

Review: Bodyline l364 Blouse in White (Positive)

After wanting one for sooo long, I finally own a white blouse! This is one of Bodyline's cutest blouses and had been on my wishlist for the longest time. I took advantage of the free AIR shipping offer and received it today. (I'm only reviewing the blouse in this post, if you want a review on Bodyline, check this post)

My Top 4 Dream Dresses

I don't own any brand and I am a firm believer that you can be a fabulous lolita with a mostly-offbrand wardrobe (hello Princess Peachie!) but there are definitely some lovely prints that Angelic Pretty has released that have completely enamored me. I've never actually stopped to think about what my dream dresses are, so I thought it would be fun to compile a list of my all-time faves! And who knows? Maybe one day I'll own some of them! So here's my list of dream dresses (in no particular order):

Memorial Cake JSK or skirt in pink or sax

(source)

One of the biggest reasons I love this print is because it reminds me of the illustration style in old Barbie products. I disliked Barbie dolls as a kid but loved products that had Barbie illustrations on them (bed sheets, shirts, plates, cups etc) Weird right? Well the love hasn't subsided and this really reminds me of the Barbie art style. I'd love it in pink, but sax would be lovely as well!

Powder Rose JSK in yellow

(Source)
Honestly, I want Powder Rose for the exact same reason I want Memorial Cake. It just really looks like the Barbie art design only takes it a notch higher in my heart because the roses look exactly like the roses used in the old Barbie art style. I like the yellow colorway because it brings a really nice warmth to the print that the others don't bring. I'd be head over heels if I could own this dress.

Vanilla Chan JSK in pink

I really love how delicate, feminine, and adorable this print is. I especially love the neck detail; it's perfect! I can picture this perfectly paired with a pearl necklace and pink heels. I've been tempted to get the Dream of Lolita replica, but I think I'll hold out for the real deal. I'm a design graduate and I know the pain of someone stealing my design. It's quite heart-wrenching, trust me.

Cherry Bunny JSK in pink

You know, I have no idea why so many people dislike this print! It's sooo adorable. It also helps that I am crazy about red and pink combinations and I also love cherry prints. This pairs those two loves and adds bunnies and apron-like ruffles on the sleeves! I would absolutely love to wear this with a nice peter pan collared blouse and a subtle red, glossy lip.

So fess up, what's one dress that has been on your dream list since forever? How would you coord it?

LBC: My Lolita Halloween

This year I've been debating about whether or not I want to wear lolita on Halloween or not. See, I haven't worn goth in about the same amount of time I hadn't worn lolita and I'm starting to miss it! But I've been seeing so many cute Halloween coords that it may just convince me to try my own hand at it! Regardless, this week's Lolita Blog Carnival topic is your lolita Halloween and this is what I want to do!

What to Wear:

If I could see the future, I wouldn't have sold my black jsk nor would I have thrown out my Jack Skellington purse and striped blazer because they would've made the perfect coord for this Halloween. Ughhhh! (This coord was what I would've worn) But the coord above I think would be a cute substitute (you know, if I actually owned all those pieces haha!

What to Do:

1. Pumpkin Carving: I've never carved pumpkins before for Halloween. It's not really a tradition in Puerto Rico but since moving to the US I've been really wanting to carve one! The three pumpkins above inspired me along with Hello Batty's Angelic Pretty pumpkin (which I sadly can't find a picture of!)

2. Watch The Nightmare Before Christmas on the big screen!
I've always wished for the opportunity to watch this movie in theaters. I was so depressed when they played a 3D screening a few years back in some theaters here in the US. Well this year they're playing it again, ON HALLOWEEN NIGHT! So perfect! Best part? Tickets only cost me $6 each!

What to Eat:

Well it isn't Halloween without sweets now is it? I love baking but I've never made anything themed nor anything with pumpkin, which is strange because I love pumpkin flavored sweets and I love working with themes! I found these three delicious looking recipes that look especially delicious and I'm gonna try to at least bake one that day.

P.S. Halloween's on a Friday this year!!
What are your Halloween plans this year?

Rilakkuma Day! 10.11.14

This past Saturday, San-X celebrated Rilakkuma Day at FAO Shwarz! They had so much Rilakkuma, Korilakkuma and Kiitori merchandise! Plushies of all sizes, pens, mugs, pencil pouches, kigurumis, you name it!

They also had a Rilakkuma mascot you could take pictures with, and cute lolitas and fairy kei girls working the event! I was so excited!

My boyfriend and I took pictures with Rilakkuma together and I dressed in lolita for the occasion (something I haven't done in MONTHS!)

Sources: (mine) and 2 (The Rilakkuma Girls, including Victoria Suzanne!)

In the end, my boyfriend offered to get me any plush I wanted and my heart was set on the Korilakkuma bunny head pillow. We literally grabbed the VERY last one. I was so happy! All in all, a very kawaii day!

For more photos, search the hashtag #RilakkumaDay on Instagram!

P.S. If you're in NYC during October, the Rilakkuma displays will be up for the entire month, so don't miss it!
OOTD:

Cardigan: Forever 21
Necklace: Handmade by me
Bow Double Brooch: Little Banshees
JSK: Bodyline
Purse: Betsey Johnson
Tights: Forever 21
Shoes: Bakers
My poor petti died by the end of the event (lots of smooshing in between people)
I really liked the coord though! First one I've 100% been satisfied with!

Are you planning to go see the Rilakkuma Displays?
What merch would you have gotten if you had been there?
